Product Description

If the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, then Genji Challa is the proverbial apple to Nano Challa's tree. Or maybe peach, more accurately describes the similarities these two share across cup profiles. The dry fragrance is honey sweet with fruited notes of citrus and stone fruits, mild floral hints, and an aromatic tropical accent note. The wet aromatics have saturated smells that are so sweet and alluring, and breaking through the crust releases a crystalline sweetness of raw brown sugar, with hints of dried fruits, like golden raisin. Underlying flavors in the brewed coffee have white honey sweetness, with aspects of fresh fruits like orange and peach, that add a juicy quality to the cup. The coffee cools to aromatic essence of orange oil, candy-like fruit jellies, and a sweet citrus note that helps define Genji Challa's bright acidic impression. My City roast showed very nice aromatic complexity in the cup too, with accent notes of apricot tea, orange peel, and delicate hints of fresh rue and jasmine. Full City roasts bring a bittersweet overlay to the cup, but do little to temper flavors of dried stone fruits flavors and something tangy, like lime. Genji Challa is such a versatile Ethiopian coffee in this regard, with a fruited side that's infinitely enjoyable at any point in our recommended roast range.
